Dr. Vasileios Vasilopoulos is a specialist in ethical media governance and journalism technoethics. Currently, he serves as the data protection officer for Greek public service media.

He serves as an active member of a special task force set up in Greece (by the General Secretariat for Communication and Information of the Presidency of the Government) to protect, secure, and strengthen the position of journalists and other media professionals in line with EU Commission recommendations 1534/21.

His professional experience includes certification as a lead auditor for ISO standards, implementation of complex institutional frameworks (e.g. GDPR), authorship of “Quality Standards in Media, Do They Make Sense?” and being a specialist in the emergence of ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, as well as the balance between human rights and media freedom.

There have been significant research projects he has participated in, includingthose related to an environmental journalism project, elections and political interactions, crime reporting, and hate speech research.
