
Sokratis Katsikas
Sokratis K. Katsikas (born 19.03.1960) is the Director of the Research and Innovation Center Norwegian Center for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors and Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in Gjøvik, Norway. He is also an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus. In 2019, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Production Engineering and Management of the Democritus University of Thrace. He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the University of Patras, a MSc in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, USA and a PhD in Computer and Informatics Engineering from the University of Patras.
He has been, among others, Rector of the Open University of Cyprus, Professor of the University of Piraeus, Professor, Vice-Rector, and Rector of the University of the Aegean, member of the Quality Assurance Authority of Higher Education in Greece, President of the National Council of Education, President of the Council of Higher University Education, member of the Communications Privacy Authority, Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts. In May – June 2023 he served as Minister of Digital Governance in the caretaker government of Ioannis Sharma. He is the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific papers in journals, book chapters, conference proceedings and has authored, co-authored or edited 46 books. He is a member of the editorial team in several scientific journals, he is the head of the editorial board (Editor-in-Chief) of the International Journal of Information Security (Springer), he has been the president or member of the program committee in more than 900 international scientific conferences and the period 2016-2023 he was the President of the Steering Committee of the ESORICS (European Symposium on Research in Computer Security) conferences. From 2023 he chairs the Executive Committee of the European Cybersecurity Challenge.
